Why a dual-sired litter?
Using two sires for one litter is fairly uncommon and the reason for doing so varies from breeder to breeder and litter to litter. For this particular litter, I chose to dual sire simply because my first choice stud backed out at the last minute, and Bren has only historically gotten pregnant with the use of fresh semen, not shipped/chilled or frozen, and she's not getting any younger. Tripp lives in New York, and the only way to breed to him this cycle was to have him collected in New York, the semen packaged in a chilled box and shipped to Colorado overnight for a breeding the next day. I did two breedings that way, and gave Tripp as much of a head start as I could to hopefully prioritize his sperm to fertilize the eggs, then I did a backup live cover with Riddle so as not to waste the breeding if Tripp's sperm didn't get the job done.
The sires have had their DNA stored on file with AKC's DNA program, and the puppies will all have their DNA sent in to confirm parentage. The only way to tell at birth who the dad of any puppies from this litter is, would be if there were a solid-colored puppy born (as both Tripp and Bren carry the colored gene, and Riddle only carries the white gene). Otherwise, we'll all have to wait 6ish weeks to get the DNA parentage results back.
