About Bantam MBT

"The Miniature Bull Terrier must be strongly built, symmetrical and active, with a keen, determined and intelligent expression. He should be full of fire, having a courageous, even temperament and be amenable to discipline." - AKC Miniature Bull Terrier breed standard excerpt

Bantam's Mission

Health and temperament are of utmost importance, followed closely by structural soundness. I strive to preserve the breed as it was originally intended and improve the overall health and soundness of the breed as a whole. I carefully select and plan breedings with the intention that I am representing and maintaining breed integrity. I breed to the AKC breed standard.

Bantam-bred dogs are envisioned to be intelligent, tenacious, independent, agile and athletic, personable, instinctual, and distinctive. Temperamentally, I strive to preserve the Terrier traits that have disappeared in some lines of show-bred dogs; expect your Bantam dogs to have prey-drive, instinct, durability and tenacity.

I follow complete health testing protocol in addition to complete OFA evaluation of hips, elbows, and shoulders. It is important to me that all health test results are publicly accessible. It is a priority that I am open and honest with every aspect of my breeding program. You can find each of my dogs' health test records linked and listed on their individual pages - in addition, all Bantam puppies are required to complete certain health testing at appropriate ages in order to promote the most sound breeding decisions moving forward in each generation.

Bantam dogs and puppies are raised on a prey model raw diet, I strive to provide the best nutrition possible for my dogs and encourage all puppy owners to do so as well. Please don't hesitate if you have any questions or concerns about a raw diet, I am happy to provide resources! Please check out the Links page and FAQ for more information.

Training

My dogs are raised with positive reinforcement methods. They are taught overall good manners, basic and formal obedience, and are well socialized throughout their lifetime.
Puppies raised by Bantam will be well-socialized and understand basic behaviors and will have had several novel experiences (including but not limited to new objects, locations, dogs, and people - all safe, supervised interactions) before they go to their new homes. Being a professional dog trainer, I begin clicker training the puppies at a young age, and provide them with a solid foundation on which to grow into a thoughtful, independent, enrichment-seeking adult. I am happy to provide training resources, as well - please don't hesitate to ask any and all questions! My goal is to provide an open line of communication with my puppy people, no matter their interest/involvement in any and all aspect of their puppy's life.

Puppy Enrichment

All litters are raised with Jane Killion's "Puppy Culture" method. See below for more information on this wildly successful puppy-rearing program!

I give my puppies the best start possible, beginning with nutrition and continuing into scientific puppy-raising protocols to promote intelligence and problem-solving skills, as well as support an understanding in how to navigate this human world that they are a part of. I am proud to support owners throughout the lifetime of their puppies and on and form close friendships with all of my puppy homes.

My goal is to give Bantam puppies a great foundation to which they may grow into happy, healthy, confident adults. I strive to foster a camaraderie within the owners of each litter through private litter-specific facebook groups and encouragement for puppy pick-ups to be around the same time/day so even those owners that live across the country or world from each other can feel connected to their Bantam family.
