Our Mission

Health and temperament are of utmost importance, followed closely by structural soundness. We strive to preserve the breed as it was originally intended and improve the overall health and soundness of the breed as a whole. We carefully select and plan breedings with the intention that we are representing and maintaining breed integrity. We breed to the AKC breed standard.

Our Bantam-bred dogs are envisioned to be intelligent, tenacious, independent, agile and athletic, personable, instinctual, and distinctive. Temperamentally, we strive to preserve the Terrier traits that have disappeared in some lines of show-bred dogs; expect your Bantam dogs to have prey-drive, instinct, durability and tenacity.

We follow complete health testing protocol in addition to complete OFA evaluation of hips, elbows, and shoulders. It is important to us that all health test results are publicly accessible. It is a priority that we are open and honest with every aspect of our breeding program. You can find each of our dogs' health test records linked and listed on their individual pages.

Bantam dogs and puppies are raised on a prey model raw diet, we strive to provide the best nutrition possible for our dogs and encourage our puppy owners to do so as well. Please don't hesitate if you have any questions or concerns about a raw diet, we are happy to provide resources! Please check out our Links page and FAQ for more information.

Training

Our dogs are raised with positive reinforcement methods. They are taught overall good manners, basic and formal obedience, and are well socialized throughout their lifetime.
Puppies raised by us will be well-socialized and understand basic behaviors andwill have had several novel experiences (including but not limited to new objects, locations, dogs, and people - all safe, supervised interactions) before they go to their new homes. We, being professional dog trainers, begin clicker training the puppies at a young age, and provide them with a solid foundation on which to grow into a thoughtful, independent, enrichment-seeking adult. We are happy to provide training resources, as well - please don't hesitate to ask any and all questions! Our goal is to provide an open line of communication with our puppy people, no matter their interest/involvement in any and all aspect of their puppy's life.

Puppy Enrichment

All litters are raised with Jane Killion's "Puppy Culture" method. See below for more information on this wildly successful puppy-rearing program!

We give our puppies the best start possible, beginning with nutrition and continuing into scientific puppy-raising protocols to promote intelligence and problem-solving skills, as well as support an understanding in how to navigate this human world that they are a part of. We are proud to support owners throughout the lifetime of their puppies and on and form close friendships with all of our puppy homes.

Our goal is to give our puppies a great foundation to which they may grow into happy, healthy, confident adults. We strive to foster a camaraderie within the owners of each litter through private litter-specific facebook groups and encouragement for puppy pick-ups to be around the same time/day so even those owners that live across the country or world from each other can feel connected to their Bantam family.

A Little More About Us

Bantam's Miniature Bull Terrier puppies have the advantage of being raised by and live in the same home as the incredibly dog-savvy Australian Shepherds of Avid Australian Shepherds. Maddie of Bantam and Dani of Avid share the same passion for breeding, raising, and training sound minds as well as sound bodies. We are fortunate to have the resources to raise our puppies in a positive, fulfilling, enriching environment alongside appropriate adult dogs who can teach the young ones how to speak each others' language, interact fairly and appropriately with each other, and learn to resolve dog-dog conflict as well as form relationships and learn how to incorporate different play styles and improve their own individual communication skills. We feel extremely grateful to live with these two surprisingly compatible breeds and share our lives with some of the best examples of our own respective breeds.  To add some icing on the cake, Dani of Avid Aussies is also a certified trainer! A graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy and carrying the KPA-CTP credentials, she specializes in puppy training and basic manners/behaviors classes, and happily dabbles in training for other sports/events such as rally, agility, nosework, herding/stock dog etc. Maddie is the assistant for Dani's formal training classes and they share the same methodology and are always learning from one another and staying active in the continued learning of the science of canine behavior and training. The Bantam gang is fortunate to have the consistency and support of the Avid crew. To have a whole house full of the same outlook on dog breeding, raising, and training is something that we are extremely proud of.
The Avidly Bantam household is more than happy to answer any questions about training, puppy raising, competing, showing, etc. that you may have. Follow links to our Contact page to submit a contact form.
